India on Monday pushed ahead with a series of diplomatic and trade engagements, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arriving in Beijing for boundary talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Indian officials reviewing the proposed free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, meanwhile, sought greater Japanese investment in India and said the country was negotiating with at least eight to nine more groups of countries and individual nations. Separately, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir reached Tehran for talks with Iranian officials, while former prime minister Imran Khan’s party demanded immediate cardiac care for him at Shifa International Hospital.

In Moscow, Jaishankar called on Putin, and the two sides discussed bilateral ties and global developments.
In Beijing, Doval arrived for a two-day visit to take part in the Special Representatives talks on the India-China boundary question with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who is also China’s foreign minister.
On the trade front, India reviewed negotiations on a free trade agreement with the GCC after India’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, held wide-ranging talks with the six-nation bloc’s secretary general, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, in Riyadh.
In Tokyo, Goyal sought Japanese investment and said India was looking at more free trade agreements to take coverage to 75 per cent of global trade. He said India was in negotiations with at least eight to nine more groups of countries and individual nations that together account for another USD 15 trillion of GDP.
In Pakistan, Munir arrived in Tehran to hold talks with Iranian officials on bilateral and regional issues.
Also in Pakistan, Imran Khan’s party condemned what it called the “continued failure” of authorities at a state-run hospital after a CT Coronary Angiography was not conducted on him despite cardiologists raising the possibility of cardiac complications. The party demanded that he be given immediate cardiac care at Shifa International Hospital.
The day saw parallel diplomatic, trade and political developments across the region, with India engaging Russia, China, the GCC and Japan, and Pakistan witnessing key security and medical developments.
