India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia attended the funeral of an Indian national killed in the attack on Riyadh airport and offered condolences to his family, officials said. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said Ambassador Vipul and other embassy officials joined the family of Mohammed Yousef Ali and other well-wishers at the funeral service.

Ali was killed in the October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, in which several people were injured, including 10 Indian nationals. Saudi Arabia has blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the attack, which India has strongly condemned.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh shared details of the funeral service in a social media post late on Monday night. It said the envoy conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul, and assured them of support. “He also assured the family of the embassy’s continued support and assistance,” the mission said.

The embassy said it had assisted the family and helped complete the formalities related to the funeral. It added that embassy officials had also visited hospitals to enquire about the condition of injured Indian nationals receiving treatment after the attack. The mission said it remained in constant touch with the families of the injured and was extending all possible support.

India described the repeated strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia as “completely unacceptable” and called for an immediate cessation of such attacks. The Indian Embassy also urged Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant, stay indoors as necessary and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Besides Ali, those killed in the attack included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, a Palestinian, a US citizen, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian and a Sudanese. The embassy’s outreach to Ali’s family and the injured Indians followed India’s condemnation of the strike and its appeal for such attacks to stop immediately.
