The Iran-US standoff over the Strait of Hormuz got an unexpected Bollywood twist after Iran’s embassy in Tunisia pulled out an Akshay Kumar meme to mock US President Donald Trump.
The embassy shared the post on its official X account after Iran claimed that its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had captured an unmanned US submarine at the entrance to the strategic Strait of Hormuz on September 8.

The IRGC said its naval forces seized the unmanned vessel at dawn in what it described as a “complex intelligence and operational action.”
Iranian forces also released video and images purportedly showing the captured US submersible. The US, however, offered a different account, saying the underwater drone was an older model that had malfunctioned during operations.
Amid the back-and-forth, the Iranian embassy in Tunisia appeared to choose humour over a formal response. Sharing an image featuring Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar from his 2011 comedy Heyy Babyy, the embassy wrote: “Lost an underwater. Oil is nearing $100. Elections are coming. How’s it going, Trump?”
The meme used a familiar Akshay Kumar expression to deliver the jab, turning the loss of the underwater drone into a pop-culture punchline. The reference to oil prices and upcoming elections added another layer to the post, making it less a diplomatic statement and more an internet-style taunt aimed at Trump.

The post quickly caught the attention of Indian users, particularly because of its very Bollywood choice of meme template. One user called it a “banger”, while another joked that Akshay Kumar was a “meme lord for a reason”.
Someone else, however, felt the meme belonged exclusively to the “Iran in India” handle.
