Elon Musk has sharpened his criticism of regulatory hurdles to launch Starlink internet services in India, directly bringing Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani into the dispute by asking whether he is “the real boss of India” and questioning why the company is still awaiting approval.
In his latest social media post on the issue, which came hours after the government rejected his earlier allegation that oligarchs were blocking his satellite internet company’s entry into India, Musk questioned why Starlink is yet to begin operations despite years of engagement with regulators and efforts to meet compliance requirements.

On X, Musk wrote: “Starlink is licenced in over 165 countries and has spent five years complying with every single law and requirement of the government of India, so why still no licence?”
He followed it with a more provocative question: “Is Ambani the real boss of India?”
This comes hours after the Ministry of Communications rejected claims that the country’s satellite communications framework was discriminatory. In a statement issued through the Press Information Bureau, the government said its regulatory system was “fair and non-discriminatory” and called any suggestion otherwise “baseless and misconceived”.
MUSK RENEWS ATTACK AFTER GOVERNMENT REBUTTAL
Musk’s latest comments follow an earlier accusation in which he alleged that unnamed “oligarchs” were attempting to keep Starlink out of India to protect their hold over the country’s telecom market.
“Unfortunately, we are being blocked by certain oligarchs in order to maintain their monopolistic chokehold on the Indian people,” Musk wrote on X. “You can guess who they are…”
He did not name Ambani or any other individual in that post. However, his latest reference to Ambani has brought Reliance Jio directly into the debate.
India’s telecom sector is dominated by major players including Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. Both companies are also involved in the satellite communications race, with Jio seeking to offer satellite services and Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb among the companies pursuing the Indian market.
