In response to an ongoing dispute over food safety and hygiene at the university, the Jamia Millia Islamia ( JMI ) has established a four-member fact-finding committee to examine CCTV footage that purports to show a chameleon in a student’s bowl of pulses at a hostel mess.
The university announced on September 14 that it was also requesting help from federal investigative organizations to look into the video and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee will also look into whether the event was a purposeful attempt to disrupt the hostel mess’ operations or to take the university under a bad name.
It urged students to refrain from circulating unsubstantiated materials and said legitimate concerns about food quality, cleanliness, or hostel facilities may be prioritized.
The leadership demands sanctions against those responsible.
The hostel resident’s bowl of pulse was discovered under a mess table, according to the school, and a group of students allegedly started a commotion by claiming that a lizard had been found in the dish.
In the event that any intentional wrong, construction, misinformation, or other misbehavior is discovered, the JMI management has directed that ideal action be taken against those involved in this incident, in accordance with applicable laws, the university said.
The commission has been given the task of examining the entire video, the circumstances that led to the event, and the actions and responsibilities of the parties involved, according to the university.
Residents of women ‘ hostels are against food.
The development comes as Jamia’s Jammu and Kashmir Girls ‘ Camp students are protesting the quality of the food served in the disaster.
Students alleged that foreign objects and flies had been found in guesthouse foods before the protest broke out. They pressed for the termination of the agreement between the current disaster vendor, the hiring of female workers, and action against the hostel authorities.
Additionally, the kids wanted to know whether those who participated in the opposition would be subject to disciplinary action.
The All India Students ‘ Association ( AISA ) claimed that the university had violated the university’s security procedures and that an assistant proctor had assaulted protesters.
Assistant Proctor’s assault on marchers is not reported by JMI.
The school denied the allegation, claiming that some protestors allegedly assaulted members of the competition staff and broke two of the girls ‘ hostel’s gates.
The JMI claimed that the dormitory mess had been providing kids with food for a while and that hostel authorities, including provosts, wardens, and caretakers, as well as disaster committees made up of hostel residents, regularly monitor food value and health.
Additionally, according to the university, senior officials, including the vice-chancellor and registrar, occasionally have meals at the boys ‘ and girls ‘ hostel messes to check the quality of the food being served.
The university has made the decision to place more CCTV cameras in all guest mess rooms and their kitchens as part of efforts to improve monitoring.
According to the statement, the security system will enable round-the-clock monitoring of food preparation, food, and other kitchen and mess activities.

The administration also expressed concern over “unsubstantiated allegations,” propaganda, and the distribution of social media video and spins, as well as” tries to harm the functioning of its dormitories and the academic environment,” as well as the fact that real concerns about food value would be addressed.
The university said it would continue to work with its individuals to provide a secure and nurturing environment while ensuring food safety and hygiene standards in its dormitories and mess.
