US Vice President JD Vance has blamed the war in Iran for the Republicans’ election losses, saying several voters who supported Donald Trump and Vance in 2024 switched to Democrats in the 2026 elections.
In a lengthy post on X, Vance said the main problem was not voter turnout but a shift in voter preferences. He said Republican voters had turned out in large numbers, but many were unhappy with the administration and voted for Democrats instead.

Vance said Republican data analysts had closely tracked voter turnout and the composition of the electorate ahead of the elections. Despite polls predicting a significant Democratic victory, the data suggested that Republican supporters were turning out in sufficient numbers.
However, a pollster he consulted had warned that many Trump-Vance voters from 2024 were angry and planning to vote for Democrats.
