A government school teacher and his associate abducted a trader in Jhansi following a minor argument, using a car bearing a “Police” marking that reportedly belongs to a constable. Police rescued the trader and arrested both accused within seven hours of receiving the complaint.
The incident came to light late on September 6, when the Sipri Bazar police received information through UP-112 at around 10:30-10:45 pm that a man identified as Vikas Gupta had allegedly been abducted by a group of people in a car.

Taking the complaint seriously, the Sipri Bazar police, along with the SWAT team, began tracing the vehicle and launched a pursuit. After nearly seven hours of efforts, the police located the car, rescued Gupta safely and arrested the two accused. The vehicle allegedly used in the abduction was also seized.
The accused were identified as Ravi Yadav and Vinay Yadav. According to police, Ravi is a government teacher, while his father, Raghuraj Singh, is a Uttar Pradesh Police inspector posted in Mahoba district.
Police said the car used in the incident bears the word “Police” and is registered in the name of a man identified as Harendra, who is reportedly a constable and an associate of the accused. Authorities said they are verifying whether Harendra is currently employed in the police department or another government department.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they had been drinking when a minor argument with Gupta escalated into a confrontation. They allegedly forced him into the car and drove away.
Jhansi City Superintendent of Police Preeti Singh said Gupta had arrived at the spot in his car while the accused were already there. He had approached them to ask about an incident that had taken place shortly earlier. The accused, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, began arguing with him, and the confrontation escalated to the point where they allegedly forced him into their vehicle and fled.
Police immediately began tracking the vehicle after receiving the information and managed to rescue Gupta within seven hours, she said.
Singh said the incident appeared to stem from an attempt to show off and intimidate someone over a minor dispute. She warned that such behaviour, particularly in road-rage or similar incidents in Jhansi, would not be tolerated and that strict action would be taken in future cases as well.
Gupta, recounting the incident, said he was returning from the Elite area late at night. As he turned from Atal Chowk, he noticed a vehicle that appeared to have been involved in an accident. He said he stopped because he feared someone he knew might have been involved in the crash.
A UP-112 police response vehicle was also present at the spot, Gupta said. He approached the occupants of the parked car to ask what had happened, but they allegedly began abusing him.
Gupta said he called his brother and informed him about the confrontation. Before he could understand what was happening, the men allegedly forced him into their car and assaulted him.
He alleged that he was beaten for around one-and-a-half hours. When his brother reached the area, he informed the police, following which officers acted swiftly and rescued him.
The two accused have been taken into custody and sent to jail, while police are continuing to investigate the vehicle’s ownership and the alleged involvement of its registered owner.
