An international pop superstar with billions of streams has been forced to reschedule his Perth concert due to an alleged case of ‘mistaken identity’.

Punjabi-Canadian singer Karan Aujla, who boasts more than 15 million Instagram followers and seven billion Spotify streams, was set to kick off the Australian leg of his P-Pop Culture World Tour at RAC Arena on Thursday night.

However, the singer revealed on Wednesday that he had been forced to move his Perth concert to the end of August after his Australian visa had been delayed.

“Perth I’m very sorry to say we are rescheduling Thursday’s show due to delays with the approval of my Australian visa,” Aujla said in a post to his Instagram stories on Wednesday.

“I’ve never had visa issues in any country, including last time I toured Australia. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and I’ll be in Adelaide on Sunday.

“Please hold on to your tickets, I’m doing everything to get the Australian visa approved as soon as possible.”

The Softly singer had previously entered the nation in 2024 with no visa issues, however the permit for his August trip was flagged by Immigration — with the Home Affairs Department citing Mr Aujla as a “person of interest” to promoter Live Nation.

Aujla’s representatives have claimed the department’s decision was due to an alleged case of mistaken identity — with news.com.au reporting that the singer had been confused with another Canadian man named Jaskaran Singh.

Singh was arrested in Ontario in 2024 over alleged firearm and extortion charges.

The visa confusion likely stems from Aujla’s legal name — Jaskaran Singh Aujla — bearing a striking similarity to the arrested man’s name, despite differences in their dates of birth and hometowns.

Ticketek has issued a statement about the show’s rescheduling on the page for the WA gig.

“Unfortunately, due to visa issues, the Karan Aujla performance scheduled for Thursday, 13 August at RAC Arena will be rescheduled to Monday, 24 August,” the ticket giant said.

“All tickets remain valid for the new date and do not need to be exchanged. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled performance, refunds are available from your original point of purchase.”

After the news of the Perth show’s rescheduling broke, WA-based fans of the singer were quick to express their sadness online.

“Nooo I’m devastated at this,” one fan shared.

“Hoping you get the visa sorted before your other shows,” another fan wrote.

“I have to wait two more weeks?!” a third ticket-holder said.

As one of the biggest global names in Punjabi music today, Karan Aujla has become known for connecting audiences around the world through his distinctive blend of Punjabi and North American influences.

Through his 12 year career, the P-Pop Culture singer has landed in the top ten music charts across more than 40 countries.

The star recently collaborated with Ed Sheeran on the song Symmetry for the British songwriter’s 2025 album Play.
