A woman police Sub-Inspector on duty was assaulted and allegedly threatened by the daughter of a sitting BJP MLA at a temple in Karnataka’s Mandya district. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
The incident took place on August 12 at the Arathi Ukkada temple, where Sub-Inspector Savitha B was deployed for special security duty in view of Bhima Amavasya.

According to the complaint, Aishwarya, daughter of Tumakuru Rural BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda and wife of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gautham, allegedly abused and slapped the Sub-Inspector following an argument over a delay in allowing her to have darshan.
The video shows the woman slapping the officer on the head following a brief argument. The officer then appears to slap Aishwarya on the shoulder, as a nearby policeman and others attempt to intervene.
An FIR has been registered against Aishwarya under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and criminal intimidation.
Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi confirmed that a counter-complaint has also been filed by Aishwarya. In her complaint, she alleged that the police officer abused her.
Police said both complaints are being investigated.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with several people accusing the MLA’s daughter of misusing political influence and calling for her immediate arrest.
“If a people’s representative’s (MLA/MP) family behaves like this, what hope is there for the general public? Power shouldn’t mean immunity,” a user wrote on X.
Another user sarcastically wrote, “I am sure the lady Sub-Inspector will be suspended or given a show-cause notice soon and will be made to apologise to the MLA’s daughter and MLA.”
Several others questioned why no arrest had been made, with one user saying, “Surely the rules don’t change for a politician’s daughter”.
The incident has since sparked a wider debate on social media, with many users expressing similar concerns over the incident.
