Anger erupted among hundreds of nursing students in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday as they broke through police barricades and entered the premises of the SDM office while protesting delayed examinations and degrees.
Carrying banners and placards, the students marched nearly two kilometres from Bistan Road to the MP’s office, raising slogans against the government. Despite a heavy police presence, the protesters pushed aside barricades and police personnel to reach the office of MP Gajendra Singh Patel, where they staged a sit-in.

The students said a nursing degree that is supposed to be completed in four years has now stretched to six years, with several examinations still pending. They alleged that the prolonged delay has left their academic and professional futures uncertain.
The protest came after the students had been demonstrating for six consecutive days over the issue. Their anger intensified after they alleged that MP Gajendra Singh Patel was in Khargone on Thursday but did not meet the protesting students.
The situation remained tense as a large police contingent was deployed at the spot. The students continued their sit-in outside the MP’s office for nearly an hour.
After the protest, the students submitted a memorandum addressed to the MP to his personal assistant. They then called off the demonstration.
