Former Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki has thrown down the gauntlet to his rivals, topping practice ahead of the Ipswich Super 440.
The 2023 Supercars champion was two-tenths of a second clear of second-fastest Broc Feeney in practice at Queensland Raceway on Friday.
Kostecki’s impressive efforts sent an ominous warning to the rest of the 27-strong field ahead of an action-packed weekend.
Reigning champion Chaz Mostert was third fastest, with overall championship leader Matt Payne fourth on the first day of action in Ipswich.
Toowoomba’s Will Brown debuted a new Ford Mustang on Friday after a worrying form slump over the first half of the season, but it was a debut that did not go according to plan.
Brown sat out most of the day’s second practice, citing an issue with his gearbox, electing to pit rather than risk causing any more damage. He finished the day last out of 27 cars.
On-track action resumes on Saturday with qualifying at 10am (AEST), which will set the grid for the day’s two 120km races.
Race 26 of the 2026 Supercars season is scheduled to begin at 12.45pm, with a second 39-lap race to follow at 4.15pm.
