If Anthony Albanese were not happily married to wife Jodie Haydon, the Prime Minister has hinted he should be so lucky as to strike up a romance with one very famous Aussie pop star.
Appearing on YouTube via Nova’s Bush Deep podcast, Albo, 63, invited irreverent host Nikki Osborne to The Lodge in Canberra for a casual chin-wag that revealed a slightly softer edge to the nation’s leader.
Forced into a game of “Shag, marry, date” with Osborne, the PM was asked to choose between Aussie treasures Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, and Rhonda Burchmore.
“I’ve just got married, I’m only six months in,” he responded.
“But if it goes t…. up, let’s just pretend,” Osborne probed.
“Oh, Kylie clearly,” the PM said.
“You’d marry Kylie, and shag her and date her?” Osborne asked.
“All of the above . . . she’s terrific,” Albanese confirmed.
The PM married Ms Haydon in November 2025 at his official residence after six years of dating.
However, fans looking for a comparative romance between a political leader and a pop star may look to Canada’s former PM Justin Trudeau and American Katy Perry, who went public with their relationship in December last year.
Albo’s appearance on the Australiana podcast was largely well-received, with both his fans and detractors pleased to see him drop his guard.
“Even though I don’t not like Albo or Labor, I love that you were able to bring out a side of him that likely only his friends see. This was excellent Bushie,” one viewer said.
“What a beautiful down to earth humorous interview,” another wrote.
Independent Fowler MP Dai Le was not as amused by the PM’s comments, instead labelling them “unbecoming of a gentleman” during a Friday appearance on the Today show.
“In parliament we’re not supposed to use certain words,” she said.
‘I will find that very unbecoming of a gentleman, but maybe the prime minister is trying to appeal to another group, a target audience that don’t mind that kind of language being used.”
Kylie has enjoyed an active career in entertainment from as far back as 1976, breaking out in the mid-80s as Charlene Mitchell on long-running series Neighbours before pivoting to pursue a career as a recording artist.
