New footage of Lachie Neale’s strike on Jack Ginnivan has emerged but the vision was rejected at the Tribunal as the Brisbane Lions star’s bid to overturn his grand final ban moves to its final stage.
The footage was a part of a Champion Data trial, which saw additional cameras placed at the MCG last Saturday, with the new and improved footage reportedly coming to light on Wednesday morning, the day after Neale’s initial tribunal hearing.
AFL council Andrew Woods asked for the footage to be admitted, arguing it was relevant, and the AFL felt it was important to bring the new vision to the Appeals Board.
Adrian Anderson, who is representing Neale, argued neither party can introduce fresh evidence, saying Brisbane does not understand why the vision wasn’t available on Tuesday night.
“Mr Neale is not challenging the finding of intentional, medium impact and to the body; therefore, the vision is not relevant,” he argued.
The new footage was deemed to be not relevant by the head of the appeals board, given the strike itself is not being challenged.
Anderson’s argument is that Neale’s suspension should be overturned due to “exceptional and compelling circumstances,” saying that the fact that a grand final is at stake has not been properly recognised by the tribunal.
There was even a reference to Neale’s former teammate and Dockers legend Nat Fyfe, who in 2019 said he would trade his Brownlow to play in another grand final.
