Sir Lewis Hamilton has taken his mum to Monza in the hope she can sprinkle some “lucky dust” and inspire him to victory in this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
The 41-year-old Formula 1 driver has clinched victory at Monza five times in the past, but he is yet to be victorious for his current team Ferrari at their home grand prix.
Lewis is now looking forward to his mother seeing him race, and hopes she will be his lucky mascot.
He said: “My mum’s here. I don’t think she’s been to Monza, and certainly not [while I was] with Ferrari.
“I wanted her to experience this and bring any lucky dust she can bring.”
Lewis is feeling the pressure ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, and he is desperate for victory on his team’s home track.
He added: “There is a first ahead of me, in the sense of if I was to win I go into new territory winning for the first time in Ferrari at Monza. It would be phenomenal.
“The pressure’s high. You want to do it for the team.
“Many of them will come to this race. The tifosi come out in huge numbers with a passion that’s unmatched.”
It’s not yet known if Lewis’ girlfriend, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, will attend the Italian Grand Prix.
But there is strong speculation that The Kardashians star might make an appearance at Monza to cheer on her man.
The pair went public with their romance earlier this year, and Kim made her first official F1 paddock appearance to support him at the Monaco Grand Prix in June.
Lewis later admitted it was “amazing” to have Kim cheering him on at Monaco.
Hamilton finished second behind Kimi Antonelli in the race, taking him into second in the drivers’ championship at the time, and he was delighted to have his girlfriend supporting him from the crowd, along with her sister Khloe Kardashian.
Lewis, who appeared to blow Kim a kiss at the podium, said: “Yeah, it’s amazing to have her come this weekend and have her support.
“My friends [in general]. It was an incredible turnout overall.
“I don’t know what else to say. It’s amazing to have good people around you and supporting you. And she does that for me every day.”
