Lindsay Clancy’s defence attorney Kevin Reddington has broken his silence on the “horrific conspiracy allegations” circulating against the alleged murderer’s ex-husband Patrick Clancy.
Mr Reddington was interviewed on breakfast talk-show CBS Mornings on Wednesday, following the conclusion of Ms Clancy’s high-profile murder trial that ended in a mistrial last week.
Ms Clancy was on trial for the murder of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and eight-month-old Callan, in January 2023.
On the evening of January 24, her then husband Mr Clancy returned from running errands to their Massachusetts family home to find his wife lying in the snow after falling out of a second-storey window in an attempt to take her own life.
After calling emergency services, Mr Clancy found his three children dead in the basement, having been strangled with exercise bands.
The murder trial captured the world’s attention due to Mr Reddington’s basis of defence being that Ms Clancy could not be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her children due to her mental state at the time of the murders.
Ms Clancy’s defence claims she was suffering from post-partum psychosis after the birth of her youngest son eight months earlier, using more than 80 witnesses and 300 evidence exhibits to outline months of psychiatric treatment and pharmaceutical intervention.
Online discourse over Mr Clancy’s alleged involvement with the murders began circulating during the trial as keyboard detectives formed their own opinions.
The biggest conspiracies surrounding Mr Clancy involve the timeline in which he moved on after the deaths, including relocating to Manhattan in May 2023, going on overseas holidays, commencing a new relationship, and re-marrying in the months leading up to the trial.
Mr Reddington has defended these acts, saying Mr Clancy should be allowed to move on without public scrutiny.
“Stop with the speculation and horrific conspiracy allegations that he was involved with some massive conspiracy to kill his children,” the lawyer said.
“It’s horrific what this man has been going through, and he’s entitled to move on with his life.
“The fact that he’s moved on with his life and is still standing by Lindsay, as far as the legal issues, tells the tale,” Mr Reddington insisted.
Mr Clancy has publicly defended Lindsay since the deaths of his children, telling the New Yorker in 2024 that he “wasn’t married to a monster—I was married to someone who got sick.”
“It’s obvious that Patrick was a man that stood by his wife through all of the difficulty of the medical issues, the psychiatric issues, the pharmaceutical issues,” Mr Reddington said.
Mr Clancy requested the suppression of key evidence in the trial including the 911 call he made when he found his family, and photos of his deceased children.
The motion was approved by Judge William Sullivan who deemed dissemination of this graphic evidence would cause substantial harm to Mr Clancy and his remaining family.
However, the motives behind Mr Clancy’s suppression request were questioned online, prompting more allegations of his involvement.
Mr Reddington, who was in the courtroom while the 911 call was played to the jury, was quick to defend Mr Clancy’s suppression order motives.
“The gut-wrenching horror that is in his voice, no actor in California could ever imitate that,” Mr Reddington said.
Mr Reddington’s interview with CBS Mornings comes the day after Mr Clancy released a public statement through his lawyer condemning the “baseless falsehoods” being circulated about him.
The statement claims Mr Clancy faces “real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life” due to the current media discourse that suggests his involvement in the murders of his children.
His lawyers have threatened legal action against online commentators going forward.
“Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified,” the statement reads.
Mr Clancy’s lawyer says he wants “to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges.”
