Tanzid drives to cover for no run – not a convincing shot, he was rather reaching for it. Bangladesh need Tanzid to keep his composure here, continue the good work that he’s done so far, both yesterday evening and in the hour of play so far today.

Najmul Hossain Shanto is the new man in.

He fends to gully and wants to take off for a run but big Cam Green is sprawling across the turf in the only way he can and stops the run, Shanto sent back by Tanzid. That’s a sign of nerves, he wants to get off the mark quickly and prove the wicket is not going to interrupt Bangladesh’s momentum.

We talk a lot about how important it is to bat long when you have the chance. Yes, to score runs, but also to wear out the opposition bowlers. You can set the tone for the entire series by batting long.

Alex Carey is coming up to the wicket – I love this, Carey is the best Test gloveman in the world at the moment and he proved that throughout the Ashes. Nothing better than seeing a keeper at the top of their game. He’s going to keep the Bangladeshi’s in their crease, but they have, by and large, been playing back and late, out from under their eyes a lot. This move is to stop the acceleration that Tanzid is trying to bring in.

Thanks Henry, well, what a turn up for the books this has been. I doubt there were many people in Australia who would have expected this to be the situation.

Josh Hazlewood has looked good, back to basics and putting the ball in the right areas outside off stump, he comes in and does exactly that first ball to Tanzid, who gets an inside edge to fine leg for a single.

Two slips in place, Tanzid looks to work the ball to the leg side but can’t get a touch on the ball, the rock thudding into the opener’s thigh pad.

He gets the next one away though and it’s a single to square leg.

I think it’s less a case of making the wrong decision at the toss and more a case of Australia batting poorly.

The pitch does look to have flattened out, but I’m highly sceptical about whether it was ever really a sub-200 deck.

These four sessions have already been better than the entire Ashes series.

It’s been brilliant. Underestimate Bangladesh at your peril.

50 for Tanzid! It’s a first Test 50 for the 25-year-old, who works a single to bring up the milestone. An excellent, composed knock against a world class Australian attack.

Beau Webster bowled the first over of the day and he’s now back for a belated follow up.

Another tight leave from Mominul sees the ball just get over the stumps.

And it’s a loosener to begin from big Hoff, who’s coming from over the wicket and firing one down the leg side.

Mix-up! Tanzid nudges one sets off for a quick single, but is stranded in the middle of the pitch as Mominul sends him back. The shy at the stumps misses but Tanzid was back in his crease regardless.

That’s a sweet drive from Tanzid, but a hand in the infield keeps it to just a single.

Shout! Full from Starc and Tanzid is attempting to flick the ball around the corner. There’s a definite noise on the way through to Alex Carey, but it sounds like pad to me.

However, one of the Australians says he heard two noises, and they send it upstairs …

Either way, it hasn’t been overly effective thus far, with Mominul and Tanzid largely untroubled this morning.

This one short and angled into the batter. Tanzid is underneath one that really dies on its way through to Carey.

The over concludes with a quick single through the off-side and a diving Marnus Labuschagne taking a massive chunk out of the turf.

Beaten! Good delivering from Starc. Quick and on a good length, Mominul is flirting outside off stump.

Full and in the blockhole and Mominul gets his bat down in time, defending straight.

There’s half an appeal behind the stumps as Starc goes past the outside edge with a short ball.
