63′ Scotland miss tough chance

By David Hirst

Best chance of the game for Scotland.

It was a tough one though.

49′ Morocco hit the bar

By David Hirst

Lucky escape for Scotland.

A great block from Jack Hendry saves Scotland.

A cut back finds Ismael Saibari, only for Hendry to deflect the shot up on to the junction of crossbar and post.

48′ Penalty claim for Scotland

By David Hirst

Scotland want a penalty!

John McGinn goes down in the box.

The Moroccan didn’t get the ball but I think McGinn went down a little easy.

No penalty.

Morocco have managed to keep Scotland’s main man Scott McTominay out of the game.

The Scots are struggling to get anywhere near the Moroccan goal.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see some changes at half time.

World Cup’s fastest goal

By David Hirst

I thought an own goal at 11 minutes was hard to swallow but a goal in 70 seconds! What is the fastest goal in a world cup match? This one has to be close to a record.

– Rachel

Hi Rachel, good question!

The fastest World Cup goal was 11 seconds by Hakan Şükür for Türkiye in 2002.

Full disclosure, I had to look that up.

Interestingly, Morocco’s goal isn’t even in the top 10 quickest.

Morocco star facing rape trial

By David Hirst

– AP

A French appeals court has confirmed that Morocco star player Achraf Hakimi will stand trial in a rape case.

The PSG defender had appealed a February decision by an investigative judge. That ruling followed recommendations from public prosecutors that Hakimi should face trial.

The decision was released just hours before Morocco’s clash with Scotland.

Hakimi, one of the best right backs in the world, denies any wrongdoing. He faced preliminary charges of rape in March 2023 after a 24-year-old woman said she was raped by Hakimi at his home in a Paris suburb.
