At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, the Lebanese health ministry said, in one of the deadliest attacks since Lebanon agreed to a US-mediated peace framework with neighbouring Israel.
The Israeli military said it had struck Hezbollah infrastructure overnight in what it described as a security zone in southern Lebanon, in response to actions against its soldiers in the area.
Iran-backed Hezbollah said the attacks would be met with a response.
The peace framework allows Israeli troops to remain in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and the Lebanese army assumes control. Hezbollah has rejected the terms, calling them a surrender.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that seven people were killed when Israeli warplanes struck a house in the southern village of Ansar. Four others were killed in a separate strike on the village of Deir El Zahrani.
