Matildas with another corner

By Marnie Vinall

Australia are creating some chances here. They have another corner from Emily Van Egmond, the third from her this second half.

Just missing that final touch to get the equaliser, but Australia are looking more in it than the first half.

GER 2 – 1 AUS, 62 minutes

Almost goal for Australia!

By Marnie Vinall

Clare Wheeler struck the ball beautifully from range but just hit the wordwork.

It came through a set piece from a corner, with Wheeler almost finding the equaliser. That would have been nice.

Wheeler and Kerr looked dissapointed.

Australia calm this opening second half

By Marnie Vinall

The Matildas are looking organised to start this second half, with glimpses here and there of ways through Germany’s defence, which proved troubling in the first half.

Australia still need to string together more passes and build connection if they want to get on top here.

Second half underway

By Marnie Vinall

Germany with a raft of changes for this second half. No changes yet for Australia.

This will be a big second half for Australia, who after being on the backfoot for the majority of the first, got a goal through Sam Kerr in stoppage time right before they headed into the break.

A good match up

By Marnie Vinall

Watching this one on German telly while visiting family in Germany. Literally can’t lose today given I’ve supported both teams in the stadium before, just hoping it’ll be a really good and fair game.

– A

It’s a great opporunity for both teams to get a sense of where they are ahead of the Women’s World Cup next year.

Thanks for joining us for it, A!

Two minutes of stoppage time

By Marnie Vinall

Sam Kerr had an exciting run, getting on the end of a long ball from Emily Van Egmond, but the flag went up. She was just offside.

Kerr looked very flat as her play was cut short. Matildas need a spark here.

Two minutes of stoppage time to go in this first half.

Sam Kerr returns

By Marnie Vinall

Sam Kerr looked in a lot of discomfort as she walked off. It wasn’t clear the extent of the injury with Australia looking potentially down to 10 players in the last five minutes of the first half.

But the captain has made a return. She still looks pretty ginger but no doubt she wants to help turn the game around for the Matildas.

Foord and Kerr combine

By Marnie Vinall

That would have been a nice answer for Australia.

Cailtin Foord and Sam Kerr made a run and tried to team up to get the equaliser for the Matildas but the German defence was ready. Matildas getting stuck against a very well organised opposition here.

By Marnie Vinall

Clare Wheeler had a collision with Germany’s Melissa Kossler, which saw the Aussie got to ground. While initally grabbed her knee and looked in a fair bit of discomfort, Wheeler didn’t need to be seen to or come off.
