Live: Swans on top but Tigers showing fight against flag contender

A Chad Warner goal late in the first quarter establishes a 20-point lead for the Swans at the opening break.

The Tigers, though, are very much in the contest.

Curnow took a strong contested mark before converting from a set-shot opportunity inside the arc.

Alger had a tight angle to negotiate, but he did so with ease to record his second major of the afternoon.

Curnow went around the corner to stretch the Swans’ lead out to 14 points.

From the pocket, Logan McDonald threads the needle to kick his first goal of the match for the Swans.

His successful set-shot followed a much easier attempt on the posts only minutes earlier.

Not long after Charlie Curnow opened his account for the Swans, the Tigers found a six-point response almost immediately through Tyler Sonsie.

We have a one-point ball game midway through the opening term.

We may have a shoot-out on our hands, as the Tigers have replied to Isaac Heeney’s major.

Noah Roberts-Thomson did the honours for the visitors, and we are again all square at the SCG.

The Swans have two goals on the trot, with Isaac Heeney on target from his set-shot opportunity.

Heeney won a marking contest inside the attacking 50 and made no mistake with his effort on the sticks.

It didn’t take long for the Swans to find a response on the scoreboard.

Nick Blakey had the pill and chipped a pass to James Jordon, who was lurking just outside the arc.

Jordon backed himself from long-range to land the set-shot and level scores early in the first term.

What a start from the Tigers!

Only 30 seconds into the match, the Tigers kick the first goal through Jasper Alger.

Following a stoppage, the Tigers won the ball and moved play into the attacking 50, where Alger was on hand to slot his major.

Swans or Tigers — who you got?

The score review system is again a topic of conversation, following Friday night’s match between the Blues and Cats.

Congratulations to Harry Kyle, who will make his AFL debut for the Swans this afternoon.

Kyle grew up playing rugby union and basketball, before switching codes and coming through the Swans academy.

“Harry has worked hard for this opportunity, and it’s a terrific reward to see him make his debut on Saturday afternoon,” Swans coach Dean Cox said during the week.

“His development over the last few years has been impressive and we’ve been really pleased with the progress he has made since being drafted.”

Among other milestones, well done to the Swans’ Hayden McLean, who is playing his 100th AFL match.

The Tigers are also celebrating Sam Banks and Tyler Sonsie reaching the 50-match mark in their respective careers.
