Robert Irwin has won his first ever Logie after taking out the award for Most Popular Presenter.

The 22-year-old was given little reprieve from his hosting duties before coming back to the stage, this time to collect the Bert Newton award for his work on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

He was up against stiff competition, beating out a raft of worthy nominees including Amanda Keller, Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Larry Emdur and Lisa Millar.

Visibly surprised about the silver trophy win, Irwin came back to centre stage in the Star Sydney for his first of presumably many Logies.

“First of all, what an incredible show to be a part of. I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! That was like the greatest three years of my entire life,” he said.

The humble wildlife conservationist and youngest ever Logie host gave a special shout out to his famous family in a heartwarming speech.

“I want to dedicate this to my family, to the people who back me every single day. I’m a wildlife conservationist first and foremost, my heart beats Australia Zoo and I bleed khaki,” Irwin said.

“My family are in North Queensland right now on a satellite connection, watching the Logies while on a crocodile research expedition. So, guys, thank you for watching.

“This is for not only my family, my mum, my sister, Chandler, Grace, all of you guys. This is for my Australia Zoo family. For everybody, 500 strong back at home, who back me.

“What an honour it is for all of us together to work toward a mission that my dad started. That is the honour of my lifetime, and I never thought I’d get to bring that mission to this stage, but here we are, and thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Now Irwin will wait to see if can follow up the debut win with the major gong.

Going up against Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Poh Ling Yeow, Sam Pang and Todd Woodbridge for the prestigious Gold Logie.
