The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday reserved its order on pleas seeking cancellation of bail granted to Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of former model-actor Twisha Sharma, as the CBI accused her of attempting to influence the investigation and shape public perception through media appearances.
The hearing witnessed sharp arguments from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared before the court during proceedings linked to the high-profile death case that has triggered nationwide attention.

“It’s not non-cooperation, it’s arrogance,” Mehta told the court while referring to communications allegedly sent by Giribala Singh to investigating agencies.
‘PRESS CONFERENCES CREATED A NARRATIVE’
The Solicitor General argued that repeated press conferences by Giribala Singh had the potential to influence witnesses connected to the case.
“Press conferences are held with confidence. The press conferences create a narrative and influence the witnesses,” Mehta argued before the High Court.
He also referred to chats allegedly forming part of the investigation and claimed they pointed to tension created within Twisha Sharma’s marriage.
“There is one chat which shows mother-in-law created a rift between the deceased and the husband. She was the one who was responsible,” he told the court.
CBI SEEKS CUSTODIAL INTERROGATION
The Central Bureau of Investigation informed the High Court that it required custodial interrogation of Giribala Singh and pressed for cancellation of her bail.
The state government also backed the plea, arguing that conditions imposed while granting bail required cooperation with the investigation and restraint from tampering with evidence.
“See her conduct, she called press conference, made wild allegations against Twisha who is not here to counter those allegations,” the state argued before the court.
HUSBAND SENT TO CBI CUSTODY
The courtroom developments came hours after a Bhopal court sent Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh to CBI custody.
The federal agency took over the investigation on Monday after re-registering the FIR originally filed by Madhya Pradesh Police. The FIR names Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh as accused.
Samarth, a lawyer by profession, had earlier been arrested by a state Special Investigation Team from Jabalpur after allegedly remaining absconding for 10 days. He was arrested on May 22.
The CBI has invoked sections related to dowry death, cruelty by husband or relatives, common intention and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
FAMILY ALLEGED HARASSMENT
Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune, was allegedly found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12.
Her family accused her husband and in-laws of mental torture, domestic violence and dowry harassment. According to the FIR, her relatives alleged that the accused were unhappy with the dowry given during her marriage on December 9, 2025.
The case took another turn earlier this week when a team of doctors from AIIMS-Delhi conducted a second postmortem examination following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court after Twisha’s parents raised concerns over alleged procedural lapses in the initial probe.
