Major fire at Katedan industrial unit, two factories gutted

Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at an industrial unit in Katedan under Mailardevpally police station limits on Sunday evening, November 8, spreading rapidly to an adjoining plywood factory and causing extensive property damage.

The fire reportedly originated in a plastic manufacturing unit and quickly spread to the neighbouring plywood factory. The highly combustible material in the plywood unit caused the flames to intensify within minutes, sending huge tongues of fire into the air.

Thick clouds of black smoke billowed from the factories, spreading across the surrounding area and leaving residents struggling to breathe. Panic gripped the locality as several residents rushed out of their houses fearing the fire would spread further.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot along with local police and launched firefighting operations with three fire engines. The teams battled the flames and took measures to prevent the fire from spreading to other adjoining industrial units.

A large number of people gathered near the scene to watch the incident, prompting police to disperse the crowds and clear the area to facilitate firefighting operations.

Officials reportedly found that the industrial units were operating without the required permissions. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are yet to be assessed.
