Malayalam actor Aaryan, in his review for director Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2, expressed disappointment over actor Mohanlal’s screen time in the film. Aaryan mentioned that while as a Rajinikanth fan he was happy, but as a Mohanlal fan he “walked out with a broken heart.”

Aaryan, in his Instagram review, wrote, “As a Rajinikanth fan, I walked out of Jailer 2 happy. As a Nelson fan, I was pretty much satisfied. But the Mohanlal fan in me walked out with a broken heart (sic).”

“What I loved most about Jailer 1 was how Nelson gave Mohanlal, Shivanna, and Jackie Shroff their own powerful screen presence alongside Rajinikanth. Even in Thalaivar’s film, each of them had their own glorious mass moments. This time, that balance felt missing, with the spotlight leaning a little too heavily towards Rajini alone (sic),” he wrote, adding, “Nelson bro … couldn’t you have at least kept those Lalettan shots from the trailer (sic)?!”

While concluding his note, the actor wrote, “Definitely a film worth watching! But my dear fellow Lalettan fans, better leave your expectations outside the theatre before walking in! Still a Nelson fan. Still a Rajini fan. But Ennaikkum Ennaikkum (forever), a Lalettan fan (sic)!”

Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as the formidable retired jailer “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian. Reprisal cast members include Ramya Krishnan as his wife Vijaya, Mirnaa as his daughter-in-law Swetha, and Yogi Babu as Vimal. Expanding the ensemble, SJ Suryah joins as the primary antagonist Bodhi Kalpak, supported by Mithun Chakraborty as Chakri Kalpak, Vidya Balan as Kantha, and Suraj Venjaramoodu as Dileep.

Elevating the film’s scale, major star-powered extended cameos feature returning allies Mohanlal as Mathew, Shiva Rajkumar as Narasimha, and Jackie Shroff as Kamdev.

A major highlight is Hrithik Roshan’s massy cameo as “Roddy,” a suave operator who arrives in a high-octane rescue sequence to assist Pandian. Marking his official Tamil debut, the sequence reunites Hrithik on-screen with Rajinikanth 40 years after their working collaboration in Bhagwaan Dada (1986).

Jailer 2 theatrically released on October 15, 2026.
