Police investigating an alleged assault on a pensioner who challenged the speed of an e-scooter rider have made a breakthrough.
The 82-year-old man was hospitalised on July 6 following the alleged vicious assault in the Melbourne suburb of Ferntree Gully.
It is alleged that an e-scooter rider verbally abused the elderly man, who had asked him to slow down, on the Blind Creek Trail before pushing him down a number of times and fleeing.
It is further alleged the elderly man was assaulted a second time by the same rider in Rankin Rd.
The victim was left shaken by the incident and had to be taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, Victoria Police said they had arrested a 21-year-old man at an address in Scoresby.
He is expected to be charged on summons with assault offences.
