A man accused of a fatal one-punch attack on another man almost 40 years his senior in a West End park will stay behind bars after his matter was heard in court.
Isaiah Andrew Louis Graham, 27, allegedly struck a 66-year-old man in the early hours of Sunday morning, causing him to fall and hit his head.
A fight had broken out between the two men, who did not know each other, after midnight at West End Common, also known as Bunyapa Park, on Vulture Street, police alleged.
The older man was taken to hospital, where he died from his head injuries.
Graham was charged with unlawful wounding causing death and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.
He was not required to appear when his matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday. A solicitor for the Yeronga man said he would not apply for bail.
Detectives arrested Graham in Fortitude Valley on Sunday evening after an investigation.
Magistrate Edwina Rowan remanded Graham in custody. His case is due to return to Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 20.
In a separate incident, police appealed to witnesses of an assault in another West End park on Monday morning.
They said an 81-year-old man had been verbally abused and assaulted by an unknown man at Orleigh Park on Hill End Terrace about 6.20am.
Police hoped to speak to a man described as in his 60s, with short grey hair, 160 centimetres to 180 centimetres tall, wearing shorts and a jacket and walking a medium to large dog on a long lead.
Any witnesses or people with mobile phone footage of the incident were urged to come forward.
