Annmarie O’Reilly was found critically injured inside her Ferntree Gully home.

A man has been charged with the murder of a mother of three, who was known to him, after she was allegedly killed in her home in Melbourne’s east on Friday.

The 30-year-old woman, who police confirmed was an Irish national, was found injured at the property on Ferntree Gully Road, Ferntree Gully, about 10am.

Emergency services were called to the house but were unable to revive the woman, identified by her family as Annmarie O’Reilly.

The 45-year-old man was arrested nearby on Friday. Homicide squad detectives on Saturday charged him with one count of murder.

He fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday night and was remanded to appear in February.

“Rest it peace to my beautiful Sister,” Annmarie’s brother Jimmy O’Reilly wrote in a post on Facebook on Friday night.

“Really can’t believe it,” he wrote, “The nicest women you’d meet, the best mother to her kids.”

“May you get the best bed in Heaven my beautiful Sister, love you so much fly High”.

Police were still at the house on Saturday afternoon, with two blocks cordoned off from the public.

Forensic teams were seen coming and going through the front door of the house, which had three “welcome home” banners stuck to it.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said it was “just awful”.

“People think this kind of thing just happens in the outer suburbs, but it doesn’t – it’s happening everywhere,” she said.

A bouquet of flowers was seen attached to a nearby telephone pole.
