A man has been charged with murder after another man died behind a pub in Melbourne’s inner-west.

A 25-year-old man was found severely wounded behind the Courthouse Hotel on Nicholson St, near Irvine St, in Footscray about 7.45pm on Sunday.

Emergency services tried to treat the South Yarra man but he died at the scene.

The incident was being treated as suspicious, police said.

At about 8.30pm on Monday, detectives arrested a 37-year-old Williamstown man at Yarraville railway station.

“At this stage, detectives believe the parties were known to each other,” a police statement read.

The 37-year-old has since been charged with murder and will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident,” the statement read.
