A man has died and two people are fighting for life after a house fire on the Gold Coast that police believe was deliberately lit.

Police say an offender set the home on Sickle Ave, Hope Island alight about 11.45pm on Tuesday.

Several people were inside at the time.

A 38-year-old man was found dead inside the property once emergency crews brought the blaze under control.

Two men, aged 44 and 84, suffered life-threatening burns and were rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

A 59-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries while fleeing the house and was also transported to hospital.

Another man, also aged 38, managed to escape uninjured.

A neighbour, David Da Silver, said he saw smoke and five police cars near the home around 2am.

“There was a lot of screaming (coming from the house in recent days),” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“It’s crazy.”

Another local man, who is believed to have helped the victims, said those in the house were “shaken up” by the incident.

“They didn’t know what happened, I feel like they were just waking up, they came out in their boxers,” he said.

Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact police or submit a report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
