A late-night scooter ride through Delhi became an unsettling experiment for a content creator who disguised himself as a woman to experience the city after dark. Within hours, he said he was dealing with prolonged stares, unwanted approaches and vehicles repeatedly getting in his way.

The creator, known as BeJaintle on Instagram, filmed the experiment and shared it online. He started by transforming his appearance at home, wearing a dress, putting on makeup and covering his head and face with a dupatta. Once ready, he took a scooter and headed out.

His experience changed soon after he hit the road. He said strangers began staring at him and that the attention continued at different points during the ride.

At one point, he recorded two men whom he claimed had first stared at him before following his scooter. According to him, they then tried to move closer to him. In another encounter, he said a man approached him and began talking while he was still travelling.

The creator also focused on his interactions with auto-rickshaw drivers. He claimed two autos moved into his path while he was riding. In the video, he said one driver stopped after noticing that his friends were filming. He also alleged that another driver repeatedly moved towards him before eventually leaving.

By this point, the experiment had become difficult for him to continue.

Sharing his reaction, he said, “Pichle 2 ghante me itna disgusting laga mujhe. Auto wale, cycle wale sab ghur rahe the. Bhai bilkul safe nahi hai ladkion ke liye raat ko akele nikalna. Sachme ladkiyon ki life bohot difficult hai (The last two hours felt so disgusting to me. Auto drivers, cyclists, everyone was staring. It really isn’t safe for girls to go out alone at night. Girls really have a very difficult life).”

He eventually called off the experiment, saying the experience had become scary.

The experiment prompted discussion online, with viewers focusing on the behaviour he described during the ride.

Some users said the experiment offered an uncomfortable glimpse into the attention women can face while travelling alone at night, while others discussed the limits of using a single experience to understand the wider issue of women’s safety in Delhi.
