A 25-year-old woman was strangled to death by her boyfriend following an argument over marriage in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Thursday. The accused later called the police himself and informed them that he had killed her.
The victim, identified as Samreen, worked at a call centre and had been in a relationship with the accused, Firoz, for a long time.
According to preliminary information, Samreen’s younger brother had dropped her off at the call centre in the morning, after which she went to Meerut’s Shatabdi Nagar forest area with Firoz, where an argument broke out over marriage.

Samreen had been pressuring Firoz to marry her, leading to tensions that escalated into a confrontation, during which he strangled her.
After the incident, Firoz called the police and informed them that he had killed Samreen and also told them the location of the crime.
A team from Meerut Police reached the spot and took him into custody. His motorcycle was also recovered from the scene.
Police said the couple had a history of disputes. Firoz’s family had previously lodged a police complaint over their relationship, but the matter was later settled following the intervention of community members. However, the two continued to meet.
SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale said, “Around 10 am on Thursday, we received a call about a woman’s body lying in a field in Shatabdi Nagar. The caller, identified as Firoz, told us that he was in a relationship with Samreen and had strangled her following an argument.”
The accused has been taken into custody and a case has been registered. A forensic team visited the crime scene to collect evidence, while Samreen’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
