More than a dozen people have been injured after a shocking collision between a bus and cars in the Yarra Ranges – bringing a major motorway to a standstill.
Vic Traffic warned the Melba Highway was closed in both directions between Castell and Yea due to the serious collision.
“The Melba Highway is closed in both directions between Healesville-Kinglake Road, Castella and Miller Street, Yea due to a serious collision,” Vic Traffic said.
“Traffic can detour using the Maroondah Highway, however this will add significant time and distance to journeys.”
A specialist Air Ambulance Victoria helicopter crew and several Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance and Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic crews were sent to the incident.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were assisting 21 people at the scene, including a teenage boy with upper body injuries who was flown to The Alfred in a serious condition.
Another man in his 50s was taken to Box Hill Hospital in a serious condition.
A teenage girl was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Another teenage boy with upper body injuries was taken to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition.
A tour bus and several vehicles were involved.
The bus belonged to charter company Mee’s, which confirmed it had originally left Mansfield at about 1pm and ferrying passengers to Melbourne.
