Businessman Rana Dilip Suryavanshi, owner of Rana Shipping Company, was injured after two persons attacked him near Baramati airport in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Sunday evening. He was taken to Pune-based Ruby Hall Clinic for treatment, where he remains under observation.

The incident took place around 7.30 pm when Suryavanshi visited Baramati for personal work. He was accompanied by his private bodyguard when two persons arrived on a scooter and allegedly approached him on the pretext of presenting a bouquet, claiming to be his fans, police officer Chaitanya Kadam said.

The duo attacked Suryavanshi, leaving him injured. Police are investigating the incident.

Asked whether shots were fired during the attack, Kadam said the police had not yet confirmed any firing and that the investigation was underway.

Dr Mudit Saxena, Group CEO of Ruby Hall Clinic, said Suryavanshi had been admitted to the hospital and was under observation.

“Mr Rana Suryavanshi has been admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic. At this stage, he is under observation. Our medical team is closely monitoring his condition and will conduct a detailed evaluation to determine the appropriate course of treatment,” Saxena said.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule termed the incident “extremely shocking” and raised concerns over the law and order situation in Maharashtra.

“Criminals are brazenly carrying out shootings and escaping, while the Home Department’s machinery is unable to do anything. The public lives in fear, and it seems like criminals have been given free rein,” Sule said in a post on X.

She said the Home Department, headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, should immediately take note of the incident, arrest the attackers and implement concrete measures to ensure citizens’ safety.

The attack on Suryavanshi was the second such high-profile incident in Maharashtra on Sunday evening.

In Mumbai, Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after gunmen opened fire at him in the city’s Juhu area. His driver and an autorickshaw driver were injured in the incident, police said.
