Three men have been sentenced to 158 years in prison for the murder of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their US friend Jack Carter Rhoad who were killed on a surfing trip in Mexico.

Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús were found guilty of aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery and violent vehicle theft last week.

The Robinson brothers from Perth and Mr Carter Rhoad were travelling through Baja California in Mexico when they were murdered during a suspected robbery in April 2024.

The three men were camping at a secluded beachside area near Ensenada when they were attacked, AFP reported.

Their bodies were found days later in a shaft with gunshot wounds after they were reported missing.

The trio failed to check into their accommodation at Rosarito in Baja California, about 45 minutes south of San Diego.

The Perth brother’s parents Debra and Martin Robinson travelled from Western Australia to Mexico for the weeks-long trial.

A statement issued to the ABC stated they were satisfied with the 158-year sentences handed to the three men convicted of the murders of their sons and Mr Rhoad.

“No sentence, no matter how long, will ever bring our beautiful boys back or undo the devastating loss suffered by their family and friends, the pain of losing Callum and Jake will stay with us forever,” they said.

“However, we take some comfort in knowing that these men will be removed from society and will never have the opportunity to inflict this kind of unimaginable pain and suffering on other families.

“While nothing can change what happened, we hope this outcome allows us to take a small step forward, knowing that justice has been served.”
