Widespread rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of India over the next few days, with fresh weather model projections indicating another active spell extending through the weekend.
The forecast comes as many parts of the country have already witnessed heavy showers over the past few days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of northwest, central, eastern, northeastern and peninsular India, with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, waterlogging and localised flooding in vulnerable areas.
WHAT’S THE LATEST RAIN FORECAST?
The run of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), indicated that rain-bearing systems are likely to remain active until at least early Sunday.
According to the model, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over parts of central India, northern states, the east coast and the Northeast through Thursday night.
A similar pattern is projected for Friday and Saturday nights, with widespread showers extending across central India, the Gangetic plains, the Northeast and parts of southern India. By early Sunday, rainfall is likely to persist over many parts of central and eastern India, although the areas receiving the heaviest rain may shift.
Some locations could receive 25-50 mm or more of rainfall within a 12-hour period, particularly where the model indicates stronger precipitation. Delhi-NCR is also likely to receive additional rainfall over the coming days.
MONSOON HAS BEEN ACTIVE
The latest outlook comes after an active spell of monsoon rain across several parts of India, including Delhi-NCR, where heavy showers on Thursday caused widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
At Safdurjang, the IMD recorded 56 mm of rainfall during Thursday’s spell, a wave of monsoon that was not confined to just Delhi.
Several parts of the NCR and neighbouring states also received heavy rain, highlighting the ongoing monsoon activity over north India.
The IMD expects rainfall to remain active across large parts of the country in the coming days.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over several regions, including parts of the Himalayan belt, central India, the Western Ghats, the east coast and the Northeast, as different weather systems continue to support monsoon activity.
The broader pattern is being sustained by the monsoon trough and associated weather systems, which are helping draw moisture into different parts of the country, fuelling the spells of intense rain.
As always, the forecasts by weather models can evolve with time. But for now, there is little indication of a prolonged break. The monsoon is expected to remain active over several parts of India in the coming days, keeping the rain clouds firmly in place.
