She took off her slippers and ran barefoot over a path scattered with sharp stones. For Ramabai Ranveer, the 3-kilometre race in Ambajogai was not just a competition, it was a race to help fund her two daughters’ education. Her determination has now drawn support from the administration, social organisations and citizens after Aaj Tak highlighted her struggle.

RAN BAREFOOT AFTER SLIPPERS BECAME UNCOMFORTABLE
Ramabai has been raising her two daughters single-handedly since her husband’s death in 2012. Today, one of her daughters is preparing for banking exams, while the other is preparing for police recruitment.
To meet the expenses of their education, Ramabai participated in the ‘Amrit Daud’ (Amrit Run) held in Ambajogai on August 29.
During the race, she found the plastic slippers she was wearing uncomfortable and took them off. She then continued running barefoot. Sharp stones along the route pricked her feet, but she ignored the pain and continued running for the sake of her daughters’ dreams.
Ramabai completed the 3-kilometre race and secured first place, winning a prize of Rs 3,000.
SUPPORT CAME IN
After Aaj Tak prominently highlighted Ramabai’s story, the Ranveer family began receiving support from various quarters.
Beed District Magistrate Vivek Johnson provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000, while a local judge gifted the family clothes, shoes and educational materials.
Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, has also announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh.
Several social organisations and ordinary citizens have voluntarily stepped forward to support the family. The assistance has helped pave the way for the continued education of Ramabai’s daughters.
The Ranveer family has expressed special gratitude to Aaj Tak for highlighting their struggle.
‘PLEASE DO NOT HALT OUR EDUCATION’
Ramabai said that the family began receiving help after Aaj Tak aired their story.
“We started receiving help after ‘Aaj Tak’ aired our story. The District Collector of Beed honoured us by providing financial aid of Rs 50,000, and a judge gifted our family clothes, shoes, and educational materials.”
Ramabai also appealed to the government to pay full attention to her daughters’ education and provide as much support as possible for girls’ education.
DAUGHTER PROMISES TO FOCUS ON STUDIES
Ramabai’s elder daughter, Pooja Ranveer, also thanked Aaj Tak and other journalists for highlighting their story.
“Our story spread everywhere through you, and we began receiving help. We thank all the journalists for this. We have a request for the government: please do not halt the education of us two sisters. May the government continue to support us. We will study hard and will not misuse the assistance provided by the government; we will focus solely on our studies.”
