Mumbai is set to witness a sharp rise in the price of tabela milk, with city milk producers deciding to increase rates by Rs 9 per litre from September 1, 2026. The hike comes just ahead of the festive season and is expected to add to the financial burden on households that purchase fresh dairy farm milk daily.
With the increase, tabela milk, which currently costs Rs 93 per litre in Mumbai, will be priced at Rs 102 per litre.

NEW MILK PRICES FROM SEPTEMBER 1
The revised rates will come into effect on September 1, 2026, and remain applicable until February 28, 2027.
Milk producers said the decision to raise prices was driven by a steady increase in the cost of dairy cattle and a sharp rise in expenditure on animal feed and fodder.
WHY ARE TABELA MILK PRICES RISING?
According to producers, the cost of running dairy farms has increased significantly in recent months, making it difficult to continue selling milk at the existing rate of Rs 93 per litre.
The prices of several types of animal feed, including grains have risen by up to 25 per cent. The higher cost of fodder and oil cakes has further pushed up the overall cost of milk production.
Producers said the increase in production costs had made a price revision necessary.
IMPACT ON MUMBAI HOUSEHOLDS
The Rs 9-per-litre increase is likely to directly affect household budgets, particularly for families that depend on tabela milk for their daily consumption.
Coming just before the festive season, the price hike is set to add another expense for Mumbaikars already dealing with rising costs. From September 1, consumers purchasing tabela milk in Mumbai will have to pay Rs 102 per litre, up from the current Rs 93.
