Years after the end of their marriage, actor Naga Chaitanya moved the Delhi High Court against online content that he described as defamatory and against false stories linked to his ex-wife, actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu. On May 29, the court, hearing his plea, issued a notice and also considered his request for protection of his personality rights against the use of his image and videos.

The matter came up before Justice Jyoti Singh. Appearing for the actor, advocate Vaibhav Gaggar told the court that some online material had falsely portrayed Naga Chaitanya as having cheated on Samantha and as having destroyed her career. He argued that the content went beyond criticism and amounted to trolling and defamation.

What happened in court

During the hearing, Gaggar told the court, ‘This is trolling, this is not fair criticism.’ According to the lawyer, the bench granted an interim injunction against the use of the actor’s name and images and also issued notice to websites that hosted the allegations. The court order was not available at the time of reporting, but the lawyer said the bench had directed that interim orders would be issued.

Samantha and Naga Chaitanya’s relationship

In October 2021, Samantha and Naga Chaitanya announced their separation on social media after four years of marriage. In their statement, they said that after much deliberation and thought, they had decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue their own paths.

They also said they were fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of their relationship and would always hold a special bond. The two requested fans, well-wishers and the media to support them during a difficult time and give them the privacy they needed to move on.

The two met on the sets of Ye Maaya Chesave in 2009. They began dating in 2014 while shooting for Autonagar Surya, and Samantha publicly confirmed the relationship in September 2016. They married in Goa in 2017.
