Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told world leaders at the UN General Assembly on Thursday that attacking Iran “was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make”. His remarks came as scores of delegates walked out of the hall in protest when he began his speech.
Netanyahu hit back at the protest, calling the delegates who left “moral cowards”. The walkout followed a message from the Palestinian mission to many of the 193 UN member nations urging them to bring as many staff as possible into the hall and “collectively walk out of the assembly” once the Israeli prime minister was announced.

When Netanyahu walked to the rostrum, the hall saw a mix of cheers, boos and a mass walkout. Afterward, a majority of seats were empty. General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman repeatedly said, “Order in the hall, please.”
“In defending itself, Israel is also also defending many of the countries whose delegates just left this hall,” Netanyahu said. “In fact, I want you to know that many of their leaders even thank us privately for taking out Iran’s nukes.” He then added, “If there are any other moral cowards who have not yet left the hall, please do so now.”
The message circulated by the Palestinian mission said the walkout would “send a clear message to Netanyahu and his government that no one is willing to aid, abet, or be complicit in its genocide and war crimes and illegal occupation, which all peace-loving states and peoples demand must come to an end”.
Israel has rejected allegations that it committed genocide and war crimes and that it is illegally occupying Palestinian territory. The article said Israeli settlements are illegal under international law, while the Israeli government insists they are legal. The session ended with Netanyahu defending Israel’s actions and critics using the walkout to register their protest.
