A New York woman has pleaded guilty to her role in an international smuggling conspiracy that illegally brought people, primarily from India, into the United States across its northern border. Stacey Taylor, 43, of Plattsburgh, admitted her involvement in a failed human smuggling operation in January 2025.
Taylor pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in alien smuggling and four counts of alien smuggling for profit. She is scheduled to be sentenced in December and faces a statutory minimum sentence of five years in prison.

According to court documents, US Border Patrol agents stopped Taylor’s vehicle near Churubusco, New York, in the early hours of January 20, 2025. Inside the vehicle, they found four men. Agents later determined that the four men, three from India and one from Canada, had just crossed the US-Canada border illegally without inspection in freezing weather.
Investigators later examined Taylor’s mobile phone and found that she had received coordinates showing the location of the men, along with instructions to pick them up. The four had entered the United States on foot through a wooded area before getting into Taylor’s waiting vehicle. She then drove them away from the border and further into the country.
After her vehicle was stopped, Taylor admitted that she had picked up the four men and expected to be paid for it. A further review of her phone uncovered text messages indicating that she had taken part in several other human smuggling events in the days before the January incident. After her arrest in January 2025, she was stopped in a suspected smuggling venture in August 2025 and was again implicated in alien smuggling in September 2025.
The case centres on Taylor’s role in moving people who had crossed the northern border illegally, including men from India, and the evidence gathered from her vehicle stop and phone records now forms the basis of her guilty plea.
