At least 19 people have been injured after a minibus collided with a train at a loading platform of the Eurotunnel near Calais in northern France.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, the prefecture said in a statement, adding that ambulances, a helicopter and police were at the scene.

The accident involved a minibus carrying truck drivers who were preparing to board the Le Shuttle service on the loading platform at the Eurotunnel site, the prefecture said in a later statement.

“Significant resources were immediately deployed by Eurotunnel, and subsequently placed under the authority of the Prefect of the Pas-de-Calais department,” it said.

“Early reports suggest that 19 people were involved, including the driver.

“At this stage, there are no fatalities, and no one’s life is considered to be in danger.”

The minibus crashed into a train about to leave, it said.

Eurostar said the incident is not expected to impact their service.

“An incident occurred several kilometres away from the Channel Tunnel.

“This incident does not involve or impact Eurostar trains running from and to London.

“All of Eurostar trains will run as expected.”
