Norton Motorcycles has won a Bronze award at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for its flagship Manx R superbike, marking a significant design recognition for the British motorcycle manufacturer. The Manx R was honoured in the Automotive and Transportation category at the awards organised by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
According to Norton, the Manx R is the first production combustion-engined sports motorcycle to receive an IDEA award. It is also among only a handful of motorcycles to have been recognised by the programme in its 45-year history, and the first combustion-engined motorcycle to receive the accolade since 2015.

The award recognises Norton’s new design direction under its Resurgence strategy, which has been shaped by Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Advisor to Norton, and led by Simon Skinner, Head of Design at the company. The Manx R takes a deliberately minimalist approach to superbike design, moving away from the increasingly aggressive styling seen on modern performance motorcycles.
Instead of relying heavily on winglets, sharp creases and elaborate graphics, the Manx R features cleaner surfaces, restrained proportions and exposed mechanical components. Norton says the design was developed around the principles of modernity, integration, drama and rider connection.
“The Manx R was created to challenge what a modern superbike can look and feel like,” said Simon Skinner, Head of Design at Norton Motorcycles. “We wanted to move away from visual noise and create something more reductive, more crafted and more connected to the rider.”
The Manx R is the flagship product of Norton’s Resurgence strategy under TVS Motor Company ownership and is the first model in the brand’s new-generation product line-up. Alongside its design, the superbike features an all-new V4 engine, semi-active suspension, Brembo brakes, advanced rider assistance systems and an 8-inch TFT touchscreen.
Professor Gerry McGovern said the Manx R was intended to establish a modern design identity for Norton while retaining the emotional appeal associated with the brand’s heritage.
The motorcycle is designed, engineered and built at Norton’s headquarters in Solihull, UK. The Manx R, along with the Atlas mid-size adventure motorcycle, is scheduled to go on sale in the US from October 2026, with prices yet to be announced.
