Norwich City has rejected an offer of more than $28 million for Mohamed Toure, with Canaries boss Philippe Clement saying not even “crazy money” would convince the English Championship club to sell the Socceroos striker.
Toure, who scored a brace in Norwich’s 4-1 weekend win over Burnley, has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent weeks, with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor having made an official offer for the 22-year-old former Adelaide United marksman.
It’s understood that offer was 15 million pounds ($28.3 million), but it was turned down by the Canaries, who take on Stoke City on Wednesday morning (AEST).
“Mo Toure will not leave the club even when somebody comes with crazy money because then you would make things difficult because you cannot replace that, for the moment.” Norwich’s head coach Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk.
“Maybe one player who is on the edge of things would go but … they can only go if they are replaced, but not the names that have been in the newspapers the last couple of weeks”
While Toure is remaining in the English Championship, another Socceroo, 22-year-old defender Hayden Matthews, has dropped down a division after joining League One club Bradford City on loan for the rest of the 2026-27 season from Portsmouth.
“I am delighted to be here,” the former Sydney FC centre-back told the Bantams website.
“It is a massive club, and I cannot wait to get out there and play in front of the supporters.
“I had a good conversation with the manager (Graham Alexander) and he convinced me of the way he wants to play. I think it really suits how I want to play my football, with high energy and pressing high.”
Alexander said: “Hayden has great attributes for a (central defender) in our team – mobility, composure in possession and a real competitive mindset.
“He is highly regarded and is determined to show what he can do here.”
Elsewhere. teenage Australian defender Dylan Leonard is joining German third division club Alemannia Aachen on loan from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
The 19-year-old former Western United prodigy signed a long-term deal with Schalke in September last year, but is moving in search of regular football.
Meanwhile, Musa Toure, the 20-year-old younger brother of Mohamed, is considering returning to the A-League due to a lack of football at his Danish Superliga club Randers.
The ex-Adelaide United attacker has played just six minutes of football across Randers’ six Superliga games this season.
