A season they’ll quickly want to forget at Broncos land has delivered some more unwanted attention in the last few days. It all surrounds their retiring (and premiership-winning) halfback Adam Reynolds.
Thursday night’s match against Melbourne was Reynold’s last home game. After a week of will he or won’t he play, he wasn’t picked. Then, on game night, he was part of a very low-key farewell at Suncorp Stadium.
It didn’t go down well, so much so that Brisbane issued an apology for the way it was all handled on Friday.
It’ll be a long trip home for the Dragons. They’ve suffered a 44-10 loss to Manly. Somehow Manly are still in the finals mix (just). A full report on this match will be posted on this blog shortly.
It’s still another 18 months until the PNG Chiefs make their formal arrival into the NRL. Their entry into the player market has already resulted in a few big fish being reeled in (Jarome Luai, Zac Lomax, Brian To’o and Joey Manu).
It also hasn’t been without incident. On Friday afternoon, Chris Barrett reported this news about the Chiefs having been warned by the NRL with regard to the league’s anti-tampering rules.
Panthers: No late changes, with Nathan Cleary being asked to guide a team with a depleted spine to victory. No Isaah Yeo, no Mitch Kenny and not even Jack Cogger. That means the likes of Lindsay Smith, Freddy Lussick and Jack Cole will need to follow the lead of captain Nathan Cleary.
Bulldogs: Also no late changes. That means the Bulldogs are pretty much at full strength. It also means no excuses. Lachlan Galvin and Jacob Preston combined with great effect when these sides met earlier in the season. Can they do it again?
Welcome to the continuation of round 26 of the NRL season. Tonight we have the Bulldogs battling to keep their finals hopes alive against a depleted Penrith team that sits alongside the Warriors and Roosters in a three-way tie at the top of the table.
