Explosive Detection K9 Donny of the National Security Guard’s K9 Unit has been awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on Independence Day 2026 for his exceptional technical aptitude, reliability and operational performance.

According to the NSG, Donny played a key role during RSP operations following the Red Fort blast in New Delhi in November 2025. On November 10 and 11, he was deployed to sanitise the VBIED blast site, where he conclusively confirmed the presence of explosives.

On November 12, Donny was deployed at Khandawali in Faridabad to sanitise a vehicle suspected of being used to transport explosives linked to the Red Fort blast. He again detected and confirmed the presence of explosives.

The NSG praised Donny for his exceptional training, courage and operational readiness, calling him a “four-legged warrior” and highlighting his contribution to critical security operations.

Also, on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved 89 Mention-in-Despatches for personnel of the armed forces. The list includes Army Dog Tyson of the Remount Veterinary Corps, 2 Para (Special Forces), under Operation Rakshak.

Tyson’s story came into focus after an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district in February.

During the operation in the Chhatroo belt, Tyson was deployed with the 2 Para Special Forces team and led the search towards a suspected terrorist hideout. According to the Army’s account, the canine moved ahead of the troops and helped pinpoint the location of the terrorists.

As Tyson approached the mud house, the terrorists opened fire and struck him in the leg.

The injury, however, did not stop him.

Tyson continued forward and drew more fire, effectively exposing the position from which the terrorists were shooting. That gave the troops the information they needed to engage the hideout.
