Muscat: Oman has introduced a temporary 30-litre limit on fuel purchases at petrol stations within 50 kilometres of its border crossings following increased demand at some outlets, according to media reports.
The National Subsidy Committee (NSC) approved the measure to maintain fuel availability for consumers, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (Tejarah) announced.
Nasra bint Sultan Al Habsi, Director General of Commerce at the ministry, explained the restriction during an interview with Oman Radio.
She clarified that motorists can refuel more than once a day despite the cap. However, authorities have not specified whether the 30-litre limit applies per person or per vehicle, or how long the restriction will remain in place.
The measure applies only to petrol stations within the designated 50-kilometre zone, leaving outlets elsewhere in the Sultanate unaffected.
Implementation is being coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, OQ and petroleum marketing companies to maintain supplies at the affected stations.
Four fuel stations face action over violations
Separately, Tejarah announced on Thursday, October 22, that it had detected violations at four petrol stations for exceeding the prescribed 100-litre limit on fuel sales to transport tankers.
The ministry said legal action had been taken against the companies concerned and urged petroleum marketing companies and their operators to comply with regulations governing fuel sales.
Regular inspections are also conducted to verify licences and monitor compliance with approved requirements.
