One person has died and another has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a house fire in Melbourne’s outer southwest.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at a home on Newbury St, Werribee just after midnight on Monday.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said one resident of the home had died at the scene and another resident was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The circumstances surrounding the fire and being investigated and an arson chemist will attend the scene,” the spokeswoman said.
Fire and Rescue Victoria said crews arrived on scene within 3 minutes of the initial call.
A 40-year-old man was treated by paramedics for burns at the scene.
