Just one in five voters say they still trust Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as 40 per cent of people said the Federal government was to blame for the cost-of-living crisis, a new poll has revealed.

The Labor government has been buffeted by soaring oil prices and repeated rate rises, with voters increasingly pointing the finger at Albanese while Pauline Hanson’s One Nation surges in the polls.

According to the Resolve Political Monitor for Nine, 22 per cent of the 2250 surveyed voters said they no longer trusted Albanese, on top of 43 per cent who said they did not trust him beforehand.

Only 20 per cent said they still trusted the Prime Minister, with another 16 per cent unsure.

Albanese remained the preferred Prime Minister, according to the poll, with 29 per cent, ahead of the Coalition’s Angus Taylor (25 per cent) and Hanson (24 per cent).

And 28 per cent said they would put Labor at No.1 on the ballot, ahead of One Nation (25 per cent) and the LNP (22 per cent).

Following a Melbourne Cup Day rate rise, 42 per cent of respondents said they blame the Federal government for rising living costs.

A further 26 per cent nominated global factors, such as the Iran War, while seven per cent lay blame at the feet of the Reserve Bank.

Five per cent said it was due to state and territory governments and 12 per cent said they were unsure.

Meanwhile an Australian Financial Review/Redbridge poll showed that Labor’s primary vote had slipped two per cent to 26 per cent.

According to the same poll support for One Nation was at 28 per cent and the Coalition jumped four per cent to 25 per cent.

Albanese remained the preferred Prime Minister (30 per cent), ahead of Hanson (24 per cent) and Taylor (16 per cent).
