Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has been caught on camera taking a fall from his bike during a charity ride in Queensland.

Mr Taylor is currently taking part in the Pollie Pedal – an annual cycling event founded by former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, designed to bring together MPs, veterans and everyday Australians to raise funds for charity.

Speaking to Seven’s Sunrise on Tuesday morning, Mr Taylor conceded “everything’s pretty sore at the moment” after being shown footage of the fall.

“I think it’s more the wear and tear on my muscles than the skin that’s gone on my hip,” he said.

“But look great cause here, we started out at Toowoomba.

“We’re supporting our veterans (through charity) Wandering Warriors, who support our special forces veterans, riding about 1000km over the course of eight days and having a great time with a bunch of our veterans.”

Asked if he was afraid of any severe injuries while falling off his bike, Mr Taylor said: “I didn’t really know, it happened so fast”.

“I mean, it’s not the first bike crash I’ve had,” he said. “I’ve been riding for many, many years, so I’ve had some worse ones than that.

“But it’s never fun. And you just get back up and go again. … So that’s what I did.

“ … But yeah, it is hurting. We’ve been moving along at a reasonable pace and some really good riders with these veterans.

“So it’s been a lot of fun. But it’s tough, and as I say a great cause.”
