A wild black panther has reportedly been spotted stalking sheep in north Wales.

A tourist staying in the village of Llan Ffestiniog in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park has reported spotting a large black cat bothering farm animals at dusk on the evening of April 18 2026, with the holidaymaker insisting the creature had a distinctive long tail and was prowling around the edge of the field.

The woman told Puma Watch North Wales: “It was dusk and I was looking out the window of our Air BnB cottage while drying my hair, towards the sheep field opposite, which had lots of baby lambs in.

“I noticed a big black cat with a very long tail skirt the edge of the field. The sheep that it had scared ran away from it quickly. I couldn’t get a photo because it was moving away from me up the field.”

The sighting comes four years after a spate of previous big cat sightings were reported around Snowdonia National Park.

In 2022, three walkers claimed to have seen a mysterious beast prowling around the area while another discovered what they believed to be a “massive” paw print.

In July that year another hiker, Stephanie Robinson, was climbing the Pyg Track on her way up Mount Snowdon to catch the sunrise when she spotted a large “brown or tawny big cat”

Stephanie reported the sighting to Puma Watch North Wales, saying: “As I was hiking up Snowdon with only a head torch, I heard a loud, aggressive growl come from a cave/sheltered area.

“I remained silent and turned off my head torch as I didn’t want to attract the wild animal that lay before me.”

The Llan Ffestiniog sighting is the latest in a number of big cat reports which have flooded in from Wales this year.

In May, a family of three reportedly spotted a wild panther during a walk on Halkyn Mountain in Wales. The witness – named only as Mark – was out on a walk with his partner and his daughter close to the quarry on Halkyn Mountain and spotted a massive cat relaxing in the sun around 200 metres away from them and they were convinced it was too large to be a domestic cat.

A dog walker was also left terrified after spotting what appeared to be a wild panther at a beauty spot in Wales that same month.

The man – named only as Shaun – claimed to have encountered the huge black beast while he was out walking his dog close to the entrance of the Dagger Trail at Pen y Pigyn in Corwen at around 5:45am on May 15 2026.
